Juan in a Million has been featured on the show “Man vs. Food”. The host faced the Don Juan Challenge. In order to win, he had to eat 8 Don Juan Tacos, and set the new record. In one of the rare losses for the host, he didn’t even come close, eating 4.

So I had to at least try it.

When asked, people will always come up with a basic outline for a date. Dinner, a movie, then a late night kiss at the doorstep. I’m a bit of a traditional guy, so I really enjoy dinner and a movie. Lucky for me, there’s a place where I can do both.

We know what you’re thinking. As we come closer to the end of Bacon Week, almost every kind of meal is covered for your day of bacon. Everything from breakfast to dinner, and all in-between. But you’re ready for dessert. Nothing too heavy, you have been eating bacon all day. Maybe a delicious candy bar will do the trick. But you still want that bacon. Fear not, for we have discovered the solution.

Bacon Cinnamon Rolls: A Sweet and Meaty Way to Start the Day

A tasty treat you can make at home. Photo by Mason Scheer

I really love to cook, but I am not a chef. People have told me that I am more of a scientist with an apron on. I mix and match things that don’t usually go together, just to see what kind of result I’m going to get. I’d say I have about a 75% success rate.

When we announced bacon week, I scrambled (that pun should have been saved for egg week) to think of something new and exciting you can make at home. Breakfast is usually the meal made at home. So how can I make bacon even more interesting? What usually does not go together? Then it hit me.

Lunch at Your Mom’s

I have always been a fan of puns. I’m a sucker for it. They tickle me in just the right way. I am fully aware I’m in the minority about this, but I don’t care.

So you know full well I had to go to a place called Your Mom’s.

Your Mom’s Burger Bar is on the east side, right off Cesar Chavez. It’s a bit hidden from view, so you’d have to be on the lookout. I went with my roommate, and even at 3:30 on a Saturday, the place was packed. We ended up taking one of the picnic tables outside, which ended up being a bit of a mistake.

Trivia Night Gets A Few Wrong

We’re always told the same thing when we’re young: Don’t play with your food. It’s still socially unacceptable in our older years. But, there are loopholes.

A variety of restaurants feature one or two nights a week devoted to Game Nights. Typically it’ll be a sports bar, or any other place that sells chicken wings. But here in Austin, one of my personal favorite trivia nights happen right around UT campus, at Mellow Mushroom.

Well, most of the time it’s my favorite.

Festival Fun – Parlor Pizza

In Dinner, Festival, Mason Scheer on November 7, 2010 at 12:19 am

We are just about ready to hit up some big shows. I hear “Take On Me” playing in the background, and I’m feeling pumped. I have a margarita in my system, and ready to get some food.

Next up, Parlor Pizza. Nothing fancy, just a regular line leading up to a tent. Right as I’m in the front of the line, they run out. They put up a sign to wait 5 minutes. I’m with friends, and the staff is really friendly.

$5 later, I get my slice of pepperoni. Honestly, it’s what you’d expect from a tent pizza. It’s good, not the best slice I’ve ever had, but good. It does the job, tiding me over between bands.

Festival Fun – Hey Cupcake

In Dessert, Festival, Mason Scheer on November 6, 2010 at 10:10 pm

The work is over, and the fun can now begin. I am standing here live at Fun Fun Fun Fest 2010, an amazing music and fun festival. I’m with my company Anarchy Championship Wrestling, but ready to kick back and relax.

Before seeing MGMT or riding the mechanical bull, we decided to treat ourselves to some cupcakes. Hey Cupcake is one of the decadent trailers here, and the sweets are incredible. Buttercream chocolate, strawberry, layers of icing, a good sweet to kick us off.

Party Creations – Gummy Vodka

In Mason Scheer, Snacks on October 31, 2010 at 6:34 pm

Party favors can very easily make or break any social gathering. People come into your home, and before they see what kinds of drinks you are providing, they see the favors you have out. For my money, nothing quite tops the joy of gummy snacks.
