Whip In: "Namaste Y'all"

I came across this story on a convenience store news web site (not on my usual RSS journey but the headline peaked my interest) that talked about Whip In, a Texas-Indian, convenience store-cafe hybrid.   Confused?  Here’s a breakdown of the place:

-Sustainable, local, and organic produce and groceries (think: anything from austinuts to organic toilet paper)

-A cafe with Gujarati-style Indian food that’s “mom approved” by owner Dipak Topiwala’s own mother

AMAZING beer selection and beer garden that puts Whole Foods to shame

-Live shows from local musicians on the outdoor patio

This place is such an Austin gem, no?  The store is situated on the western access road between Exits 232 and 233 of I-35 and is a definite stop for any of you heading to Houston or just in the mood for some home-cooked Indian food or artisanal products to whip up your own local meal.  Even better, check out a show at their parlour cafe while you’re there.

  1. This is one of my faaaavorites. It looks like a cheap beer store from the outside, but it’s totally Austin on the inside. So glad you covered it. 🙂
